Corporate Responsibility

Our Conflict Free Diamond Guarantee

A'per Trading Diamond Brokerage offers conflict free diamonds that are guaranteed to originate from ethical, social and environmentally responsible sources. Conflict free diamonds are mined and traded free from violence and other human rights abuses, and are produced with minimal environmental impact. "Blood diamonds" have funded devastating civil wars in Africa, ending millions of lives, and are associated with human rights abuses including violence, worker exploitation, and environmental damage.

At A'per Trading we track our diamonds from mine to market to ensure they are mined, cut, and polished in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. Many of our diamonds are verified origin Canada and we also offer ethical origin diamonds from Australia. These diamonds are certified to ensure they originate from ethical and environmentally responsible sources for production and polishing. Other retailers may claim they offer conflict free diamonds, they generally are relying solely upon Kimberley Process data that addresses rough diamonds from nations in an official state of civil conflict. Environmental and labor-related concerns are wholly ignored, as is the violence perpetuated by the recognized government of Zimbabwe.

Our Canadian diamonds are carefully tracked through mining, cutting, polishing, and trading. This ensures that our Canadian diamonds enter an uninterrupted chain of custody, and our supply line is not corrupted by conflict diamonds. Other retailers make vague claims that their diamonds are conflict free but have no certification process to guarantee the ethical source of their diamonds. Because each of our Canadian diamonds is tracked from mine to customer, we guarantee that no diamond treatments or enhancements have been used. All of our Canadian diamonds have certification policies compliant with Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct, CanadaMark Certification, and the Government of the Northwest Territories. These policies provide independent validation to give you the peace of mind to know your diamond is conflict free. A'per Trading offers Canadian diamonds from the Ekati and the Diavik mine. Canadian diamonds are mined according to Canada's strict environmental laws,  which are among the most rigorous in the world. These high standards protect caribou and other wildlife, water, and fish habitats. Canadian mines have demonstrated a strong commitment to the local Aboriginal people. The Diavik and the Ekati mine are both independently monitored to be ISO 14001 compliant.

All diamonds herein offered have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. A'per Trading Corporation hereby guarantees that these diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the suppliers of these diamonds.

A'per Trading supports the development of open, fair, and competitive diamond markets operated with total transparency. Efficient trading markets are an important step in creating fair trade diamonds and jewelry. An active cash market with recognized good delivery standards is critical to any commercial commodization or securitization of diamonds, with accurate trading and price information available in real time, to all market participants.

Corporate responsibility for business, social and environmental matters is part of our day-to-day business at A’per Trading through strict adherence to the Diamond Industry ‘Best Practice Principles’

Our Best Practice Principles consist of a set of objective standards of business, social and environmental conduct that require A’per Trading and their business partners to go about their activities with integrity and in a socially responsible way.

Fundamental to the Best Practice Principles relating to responsible business practices is the requirement that all relevant entities act ethically by adhering to national law and not buying or trading rough and polished diamonds where this would encourage or support conflict.

In addition, the Best Practice Principles seek to ensure high levels of health, safety and labor standards in the mining, cutting and polishing of diamonds, including the protection of children from child labor and full compliance with international best practice with respect to environmental protection.

The Best Practice Principles are a fair and transparent means of ensuring that relevant entities carry on their diamond businesses in a sustainable way by operating to high ethical, legal, professional, social and environmental standards.
